Perceptual Integration Compensates for Attention Deficit in Elderly during Repetitive Auditory-Based Sensorimotor Task

چکیده
Sensorimotor integration (SI) brain functions that are vital for everyday life tend to decline in advanced age. At the same time, elderly people preserve a moderate level of neuroplasticity, which allows brain’s functionality be maintained and slows down process neuronal degradation. Hence, it is important understand aspects SI modifiable healthy old The current study focuses on an auditory-based task explores: (i) if repetition such can modify neural activity associated with SI, (ii) this effect different young A group older subjects controls underwent assessment whole-brain electroencephalography (EEG) while repetitively executing motor cued by auditory signal. Using EEG spectral power functional connectivity analyses, we observed differential age-related modulation theta throughout task. Growth anterior stimulus-related oscillations accompanied enhanced right-lateralized frontotemporal phase-locking was found adults. Their counterparts demonstrated progressive increase prestimulus occipital power. Our results suggest short-term modulates sensory processing elderly. Older participants most likely progressively improve perceptual rather than attention-driven compared their younger counterparts.

Sensorimotor integration compensates for visual localization errors during smooth pursuit eye movements.
To localize a seen object, the CNS has to integrate the object's retinal location with the direction of gaze. Here we investigate this process by examining the localization of static objects during smooth pursuit eye movements. The normally experienced stability of the visual world during smooth pursuit suggests that the CNS essentially compensates for the eye movement when judging target locat...
متن کاملAuditory Memory deficit in Elderly People with Hearing Loss
Introduction: Hearing loss is one of the most common problems in elderly people. Functional side effects of hearing loss are various. Due to the fact that hearing loss is the common impairment in elderly people; the importance of its possible effects on auditory memory is undeniable. This study aims to focus on the hearing loss effects on auditory memory. Materials and Methods: Dichotic Audi...

Rule-based and information-integration perceptual category learning in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
OBJECTIVE Suboptimal functioning of the basal ganglia is implicated in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). These structures are important to the acquisition of associative knowledge, leading some to theorize that associative learning deficits might be expected, despite the fact that most extant research in ADHD has focused on effortful control. We present 2 studies that examined th...
متن کاملAuditory perceptual grouping and attention in dyslexia.
Despite dyslexia affecting a large number of people, the mechanisms underlying the disorder remain undetermined. There are numerous theories about the origins of dyslexia. Many of these relate dyslexia to low-level, sensory temporal processing deficits. Another group of theories attributes dyslexia to language-specific impairments. Here, we show that dyslexics perform worse than controls on an ...
